Matthew 11:28–29

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Scripture Insights

Having a hero in your life is worth celebrating. Almost all of us would be thrilled to celebrate the influence of someone who has encouraged us along the path of life. Perhaps the most amazing thing is realizing that our risen Savior is the one who comes alongside us and represents the greatest hero of all time. Pathways and decisions we make in life can lead to some dark and troubling places. Yearning for the One who calls to us with a gentle voice is what happens when we open our hearts to him.
Because of the work of Christ, we are able to come to him with our heavy loads. Instead of being crushed by the unbearable weight that life may bring our way, we are able to rest. Rest is the promise. The souls of the weary learn from our Lord how to navigate this journey. His humility and gentleness redirect us, leaving us touched in such a way that all shame disappears.
Divine hope is what our hero reveals. Against the raging voices of this world, we exchange our painful yoke for his. Yes, his yoke is easy and his burden light.

Today’s Prayer

Challenge us, Lord. Help us to bear your burden within our communities. Along the way, open our eyes to the needs of those around us. Keep us on the path that leads to your glory.
