Psalm 112:4

Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.

Scripture Insights

In a world where evil seems to get its way, shattered lives and chaotic circumstances are too common in our communities. The question is, can we Christians afford to be inconsequential to the world around us when we proclaim that our God is good, gracious, and compassionate?
In reading Psalm 112:4, we can realize that, just as God desires for us to be like him in our being, it is also his desire for us to be like him in our doing. Therefore, being gracious, compassionate, and righteous should be an integral part of our holy living just as they are the intrinsic nature of our God, expressed clearly in Psalms 111 and 112. It is like the saying, “Like father, like children!”
We know God is active in bringing order to the chaotic, messy world around us by acts of redemption and compassion. We, as God’s people, need to be guided by his light in these dark days so we can be active in reaching out and blessing our communities with incarnational, tangible, compassionate ministries that bring transformational and eternal change to everyone.

Today’s Prayer

Our prayer today is threefold: 1) That we are enlightened by his light to be a blessing to everyone even in our darkest moments; 2) That we be intentional in blessing our communities; and 3) That we do it joyfully.
