Hebrews 12:10, 14

They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. . . .

Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.

Scripture Insights

I never enjoyed disciplining my children, but there were times when I knew I didn’t have a choice. I loved them too much not to discipline them. Still, to this day, I often find myself dreaming about what they will look like someday. I love when I see glimpses of maturity and responses that resemble Jesus. It excites me to see them growing and maturing. I then remember all the tough conversations and moments of correction. They have come so far!

It doesn’t take long for the Holy Spirit to remind me that the view he has given me of my children is the same view my Father holds of me, his child. He looks upon my life, and I can imagine him saying, “I love you too much not to discipline you and correct you. I want you to flourish and mature. I want to fill you so that your interactions overflow to others with more of me and less of you.” You have come so far!

Today’s Prayer

Thank you, God, for loving us so much that at times you correct and discipline us to help us become more like you. We invite your shaping hand in our lives.
