2 Corinthians 5:15

And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

Scripture Insights

As we focus this year on becoming Christlike disciples, what does that really mean? Discipleship is not simply taught and learned in a Bible study or workbook. It’s a pursuit and a journey throughout our lives, and any journey requires movement.

Sometimes people participate in discipleship programs, and then there is no further movement in their spiritual journey. Discipleship isn’t just about learning but also about cultivating a deep desire for continual spiritual growth and a willingness to be transformed. It requires a desire to intentionally focus on the lifelong process of growing and actively striving to imitate Christ’s life, character, actions, attitudes, and love. It requires a willingness to continue the journey and movement toward Christ, demonstrated by how we live our lives and by showing God’s love for others in meaningful ways. As unworthy as we all are, once we realize the magnitude of what Christ did for us, we should each desire to live our lives with that same degree of devotion to him!

Today’s Prayer

Lord, help us to remember that we are all disciples in progress, on a journey that requires commitment, perseverance, and endurance through challenges and temptations. Help us to strive to model the behavior of Christ through faith in Jesus, obedience to his commands, and loving others as he loves them.
