Luke 1:46-48
And Mary said:
“My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed.”
Scripture Insights
On this Mother’s Day, I’m thinking about Mary—not just as the mother of Jesus but as a young, unwed woman saying yes to God while standing in the middle of fearful uncertainty. In her world, pregnancy outside of marriage could mean shame, rejection, even danger. Yet Mary’s first response was not anxiety or despair but worship.
Her joy didn’t come from perfect circumstances. It came from trusting God’s heart and believing that his plan was worth the risk. Mary believed that God was mindful of her. This means that God valued her, honored her, and entrusted her with his purposes. It’s a reminder that God’s attention is not drawn by human status or achievement. He sees the overlooked, the humble, and the hidden, and he calls them into his work.
Being a Christlike disciple means trusting him even when the road is unclear and the cost feels high. Today, let’s remember: God still sees us, still calls us, and still fills our obedience with joy that the world can’t take away.
Today’s Prayer
Lord, give us Mary’s heart: humble, trusting, and willing. In uncertainty, let us choose worship over fear, obedience over comfort. May our lives magnify you and our joy be rooted in your unchanging faithfulness.
