John 8:11

“No one, sir,” she said.

“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

Scripture Insights

What amazing and powerful words spoken by Jesus! This short gospel picture is not so much about the actions of the Pharisees and teachers of the law or even the woman brought before Jesus. This is about Jesus and who he is. It is a beautiful picture of the words spoken about Jesus in John 1:14: Jesus came “full of grace and truth.” He neither denies nor diminishes the reality of sin but rather reveals the very purpose for his coming—to save people, not to condemn them.

Those words spoken to the woman, “neither do I condemn,” are the expression of his grace. His following statement, “Go now and leave your life of sin,” is the call to live a new life in the transforming grace of Jesus. It is the truth that Jesus saves us not only from the penalty of sin but also from the very power of sin. And those words are calling to us today to live in the grace and truth of Jesus—set free from the condemnation of sin to live as holy people who walk with Jesus each and every day.

Today’s Prayer

Jesus, I am so grateful that you chose not to condemn me but save me and set me free from the very power of sin in my life. I choose this day to walk in holy obedience to you. All for you, Jesus.
