My mother died two years ago, and I still catch myself thinking, I should call Mom. She taught me a lot about God through her prayer life. Mother was a person who prayed!
My momma didn’t play fair when it came to spiritual things. I remember when I was a teenager, she could rob me of all my fun on a Saturday night just by staying home praying for me. I always knew when Momma was praying!
The message I heard from my mother was the message spoken through her life. There was no doubt God was real; I could see him in her. Family relation ships can be bridges to Jesus because the family is going to know the real you. My mother knew this simple truth, so she prayed. She let God do the preaching while she fought off the enemies of our souls. The message of Christ spoken over me in prayer still clings to me as a gentle reminder that faith comes from hearing the message of the life of those who go before us.
Today’s Prayer
Heavenly Father, may your will be accomplished in our lives, sharing your word of what you’ve done in us. In all humility, we ask you to guard the words of our mouths as we speak about you.
