Ephesians 4:11–12

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.

Scripture Insights

During the summer, our family often visited and enjoyed a famous seasonal burger place on the outskirts of a city. There was always a long wait time be cause the owner made all the burgers himself and managed all four grills. His family was there to help, but because he was afraid they would make a mistake, their ability to assist was limited.

God has given the church specially gifted leaders, evangelists, pastors, prophets, apostles, and teachers. Many times, leaders are afraid to give opportunities to God’s people to do his work because they fear failure and mistakes. God’s people follow the same path and avoid doing God’s work because of their own fear of failure and making mistakes.

Know this: we learn through our mistakes and failures. Don’t be afraid. Equip God’s people and take bold steps to do God’s work. Take heart because, as the Bible says, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9, NLT).

Today’s Prayer

God, today we ask you for forgiveness for not trusting you. We have not taken bold steps to do your work, and we have failed to equip your people. Release us from our fear of failure because we know your power works best in our weakness.
