Psalm 86:11

Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.

Scripture Insights

When David went through difficulties in his life, he desired to remain teachable, flexible, and adaptable to God’s plans. We notice that in today’s scripture David reminded himself not to be too wise in his own eyes. The opposite of a united heart is a divided heart, which gives us multiple options, some of which are not pleasing to God. Could David be admitting that his heart is playing tug of war? David’s desire in prayer was the undivided heart, singular loyalty to his God.
When Jesus was asked about the greatest commandment, he said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37). This totally focused and devoted heart is what God desires from and looks for in us.

Today’s Prayer

God, we ask you now to end the tug-of-war that goes on in our hearts. We ask that you would give us humility and a desire to see clearly your will for our lives. We thank you for your faithfulness to us and ask that you grant us undivided, all-in hearts that want nothing more than to please you.
