After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him.
Scripture Insights
In one short verse we learn three important things about Jesus’s ministry.
First, Jesus is on the move. He has an itinerant ministry. The work of God is always a movement. Jesus is on the move, seeking the lost and the broken; the Spirit is on the move, drawing people to Jesus; the Father is on the move, extending his arms and his heart to all creation, especially prodigals. It is exciting to be part of the movement of God.
Second, Jesus is sharing good news. His message is hope-filled. The kingdom has come. Enter in. You belong. Everyone is invited to follow Jesus!
Third, Jesus is not alone. His disciples are with him. He has partners in the mission. Ministry, at its best, is a partnership with Jesus and with other followers of Jesus. Thank God for the partners who join us in the mission.
Today’s Prayer
Lord, thank you for inviting us to be on mission with you. May our message be marked by the good news of hope. May our partnerships in your mission be blessed. We pray in the name of the one who calls us.
