Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Scripture Insights
Proverbs 3:5-6 is one of the first scriptures I remember learning in Caravan (Scouts for Nazarenes) as a young child. I had no idea what path God would lead me down when I first memorized those words, but they have returned to me countless times over the years.
What I’ve discovered is that even though God promises to make our paths straight, there have been many seasons when those paths took me far outside my comfort zone and beyond my understanding. It was precisely in those moments when I chose to trust God and allow him to lead that he used those opportunities to shape me more and more into the likeness of Christ.
This childhood scripture has evolved from words I memorized to a blueprint for discipleship. Each time I surrender my own plans and trust his direction, I discover that becoming more like Christ begins with the simple act of trusting God’s heart over my own understanding.
Today’s Prayer
Lord, thank you for making our paths straight, even when we don’t understand. Help us to trust you completely and become more like you in all we do and say.
