Psalm 119:105

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

Scripture Insights

Psalm 119 is a song of praise for God’s Word. It teaches wisdom, hope, correction, wonder, understanding, protection, and guidance. Verse 105 compares God’s Word to a lamp that guides our feet and illuminates our path, meaning that it tells us the next steps and the overall direction we should go.

In a world filled with invitations and demands, as disciples of Jesus we need a bright light to break through and show us truth and direction to prevent us from being swayed by “well-crafted arguments.” This is why we must be people of God’s Word. We must study it, meditate on it, and seek it first in all of life.

By doing so, we can extend this light into the world, ushering people out of darkness and into the light of Christ.

Today’s Prayer

My prayer, then, for the Church of the Nazarene is that we will shatter the statistics of biblical illiteracy and become a people who once again echo the sentiments of John Wesley: “Give me that book! At any price give me the Book of God!”
