Matthew 22:11–14
But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. He asked, “How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?” The man was speechless. Then the king told the attendants, “Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” For many are invited, but few are chosen.
Scripture Insights
Are you a servant of the King? The King will send you to whom the King sends you, and they just might kill you. It is okay. The King has more servants. The bottom line for servants of the King is that we have been commanded to get the word out to everyone, everywhere.
What differentiates those who are invited but not chosen from those who are invited and chosen? Wedding clothes. Really?! What is this about?
To accept the invitation of the King is to accept it on the King’s terms. The change of clothes symbolizes the change of life both offered to us and required of us by God’s gracious invitation.
As I have heard my good friend Rev. Laura Tanner preach many times, we invite everyone everywhere to a King “who loves us enough to accept us just as we are, and way too much to leave us that way.”
Today’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven, may you be glorified, and may your kingdom come through
our obedience in inviting everyone, everywhere into your kingdom. Thank you for
not leaving us unchanged. Thank you for your provision, your forgiveness, and your deliverance.
