2 Timothy 3:16-17

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Scripture Insights

All Scripture” is useful, so that you “may be thoroughly equipped.” I find myself drawn to the same parts of Scripture over and over again. I enjoy the clarity I find in the Epistles, I like that I can read the Minor Prophets quickly, and yeah, of course, I’m drawn to the Gospels.

I find myself drawn to the same portions of Scripture, and I also find myself struggling with the same issues. I was with a group of business owners in our church recently, and one of them made the comment, “The magic you’re looking for is in the work you are avoiding.” This wasn’t a statement about magic; it was about the ways in which we make excuses out of difficult things only to then do the same things and yet expect different results. Maybe to put it more simply, don’t mystify how to get different results, but rather, do the thing you’ve been avoiding.

Or to put it in the context of this passage, maybe the growth you have yet to experience is in the parts of Scripture you’ve been avoiding? “All Scripture” is useful, so that you “may be thoroughly equipped.”

Today’s Prayer

Jesus, we love you. Stir within us such a desire for you that we are drawn to things we have previously avoided. Let all of your Word grow roots in our lives so that we can bear fruit in every season.
