Isaiah 6:8

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”

And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Scripture Insights

In the verses leading up to this moment in today’s scripture, Isaiah is full of holy fear. In a vision, Isaiah hears the seraphim worshiping and is wrecked by his smallness and sinfulness compared to the greatness and holiness of God.

Then—no doubt a reminder of a work God had already done in Isaiah—he sees a vision of a seraph coming to him with a burning coal. After touching it to Isaiah’s lips, the seraph shares this beautiful imagery: “See, this has touched your lips. Now your guilt is removed, and your sins are forgiven” (v. 7, NLT).

After this profound vision, a reminder of God’s extension of grace, Isaiah responds to God’s question, “Who can I send?” with reckless gratitude and joyful
abandon: SEND ME!

I wonder how God would ask us to respond to the radical grace we’ve been extended today. Worship? Obedience? Surrender? Boldness? Whatever God
might be asking of us, Isaiah reminds us: how else can we respond to God’s
grace but with reckless gratitude and joyful abandon?

Today’s Prayer

Almighty God, giver of good, extravagant grace, you have our reckless gratitude and joyful abandon today and every day. Show us your way!
