Romans 12:2

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Scripture Insights

How does one become a Christlike disciple? This verse here: Romans 12:2. While Romans 1–11 teaches about right thinking and theology, Romans 12 and following is focused on how to live out the truth.

Because of what God has done for us (the gospel), we should no longer be conformed to this world. The reference to “world” is not the physical world but rather the aeon or age that Satan oversees—an age marked by rebellion, idolatry, and fleshly lusts.

Do not be shaped by Satan’s world but be transformed into Christlike disciples “by the renewing of your mind.” The word “mind” is more than simply intellect. It is about perceiving, considering, and discerning where your thoughts align with God’s thoughts. I hope you’re asking, “How do I become transformed?”

This is why the gospel is not just for unbelievers.

One writer said, “The gospel is like a well: You get the best water from the well not by widening the circumference of the well but by digging deeper into it.”

Dig deep, my friends.

Today’s Prayer

Father, would you point out any conformity I may have to this evil age? My heart’s desire is to be so transformed that when people are with me, they see and hear you. I am listening.
