When you hear the word “prayer,” what do you think about? Some may feel guilty for not praying enough or for not exercising enough faith when they do pray. Others may feel bad about their lack of desire to pray. Still others may have stopped really praying about something because it feels like nothing is going to change.
Every deep person of prayer is marked by a profound conviction expressed in a single phrase found in the doxology of one of the greatest prayers in the New Testament: “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”
Six powerful words can change our lives: Now to him who is able.
Able to do what? Whatever is needed. Our God is able to do whatever needs to be done in the world and in your life according to his plans and purposes. No problem can stop him. No obstacle can thwart him. No circumstance can worry
him. No outcome can confuse him.
Our God is able.
Today’s Prayer
Father, help us to remember that you are not a cosmic bystander observing the world from a distance. Give us the faith to believe that you are active, interested, and involved in the world and in our lives. We thank you that you are able to handle any situation and that you are always doing more than we can ask or imagine.
