Ephesians 2:10

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Scripture Insights

I am currently enrolled in the Church and Community master’s program at Trevecca Nazarene University. I often joke with people that I’m learning to be an extra-good Christian neighbor. We took a class on Wesleyan theology where we learned how John Wesley viewed salvation as the restoration of God’s image in us. I love our Nazarene belief that we do not have to wait until eternity to experience the healing grace of God! We can have it here, “on earth as it is in heaven.”

Today’s scripture reminds me of this theology that we hold so dear. God has created you, dear friend, to do good works—right here, right now—and not because we need to earn a spot in heaven but because when the Holy Spirit fills our hearts, souls, and minds, we can’t help but love others into a community full of people who are hungry for the Way of Jesus.

How can you extend to your neighbor a hospitality that demonstrates the good work of Jesus in and through you today?

Today’s Prayer

Holy Spirit, show us where we need your healing grace to do the good works God has prepared for us. Help us create a community that invites the lonely, the lost, and our neighbors to find hope in Jesus, our Lord and Savior!
