Luke 2:10–11
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.”
Scripture Insights
The good news of Jesus Christ is for all the people. One of Luke’s primary ob jectives was to announce the good news for all, including the gentiles.
However, in this meeting with the shepherds, the angel tells them that the good news is for the Jewish people. “All the people” is singular in Greek; when Luke uses it this way, he usually means the Jews. Here, in this encounter with lowly Jewish shepherds, God becomes specific and personal. This was good news for their people.
So they went and told all they encountered of the wonders they saw and
heard from the angel. All who heard them were amazed and filled with joy.
Although it may seem easier to share the good news of Jesus with strangers, our loved ones should be the starting place for our ministry. Their salvation is most precious to us, making it our responsibility to share the gospel with them. How are you sharing the good news with your immediate circle? Have your dearest people experienced the great joy of the gospel?
Today’s Prayer
Lord, thank you for the people you’ve brought into our lives. We are committed to intentionally sharing the good news with them so that all our loved ones can experience the joy of living in a relationship with you.
